MUSIC
Untitled Document
Time should be
taken to choose music for the ceremony that the deceased would have
liked. The family can choose from organists, tape / CD players, and
live performances by family or friends as potential musical offerings.
Many crematoria will allow for the services of their organist, and many
funeral homes have organs, pianos, and sound systems.
It is not uncommon
for a ceremony to begin with a solemn piece to set the mood for the
ceremony, and to close with a more upbeat piece as the mourners leave.
If music is played during the committal, a somber piece is usually chosen.
Because of its
formal, traditional appeal, many people choose classical music at secular
ceremonies, though increasingly Jazz, Pop, Country, Rock, Reggae or Indian
music are being offered.
Examples of Classical
Pieces
Chopin - B flat
minor Sonata, opus 35
Chopin - F minor Nocturne, opus 55 no.1
Beethoven - A flat Sonata, opus 26
Handel - the Dead March from 'Saul'
